Pitch Perfect 3 Reviewed By Jarred Tito

The Premise
After the highs of winning the World Championships, the Bellas find themselves split apart and discovering there aren't job prospects for making music with your mouth. But when they get the chance to reunite for an overseas USO tour, this group of awesome nerds will come together to make some music, and some questionable decisions, one last time.

The Review
A light-hearted comedy that delivers some impeccably performed musical medleys and harmonies while juggling a superficial plot. Perfect Pitch 3 involves; a grand finale performance from the all-female, world champion [singing nerd group] ‘The Bellas’, a bedraggled millionaire father set out to regain his wealth, and world USO tour with the US Navy.

It’s a fun ride that singers and performers may or may not enjoy but that consumers of vocal-driven pop music will love, depending on whether you like over produced pre-recorded backing tracks or not.

Apart from the lip-syncing bonanzas that feature throughout, the other feature of the film worth commenting on was the comic skills of the Australian actress Rebel Wilson who plays ‘Fat Amy’. She is possibly the sole reason that the film reached any level of comical enjoyment. Her delivery of lines and comic style is quite something. Her performance dominates every scene that she is in and brought a much needed ‘saving grace’ to the film and cast. Having said that, John Lithgow from ‘Third Rock from The Sun’, brings a strong sense of entertainment to any production he’s involved in. I wish there was more story line with him. John Michael Higgins (Best In Show) was also very funny.

There are a few cameos dotted throughout the movie too. DJ Khaled plays himself, Ruby Rose plays a version of herself as does Matt Lanter.

The Verdict
The main story is quite predictable but does provide a few twists and turns that will spin some interest. The singing performances, although pre-recorded, are quite stunning. However, it’s the B story (Fat Amy’s story) that provided the lion’s share of entertainment. A suitable follow up story in the franchise that is not unlike a movie you might expect the Wiggles to make. Great movie for the ‘tweens’.
