The Premise
Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game and the rest of the crew has been exonerated, the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime he can't seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

The Review
So, we have completely said goodbye to Paul Walker now. His race jersey has been retired and I guess this creates the question of how to continue a film franchise without one of the main characters and no way to bring them back. Come this isn’t Star Wars. So instead you follow the example of The Expendables, insert as many action stars as humanly possible and let the high-octane action fill the gaps. So, here we have Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham all vying for screen time while attempting to not kill each other along the way.

Most of the film fits the same style and recipe as the previous outings, car chases, big stunts and massive action sequences. Loads of witty one liners and head to head battles. So, what is new? Charlize Theron is new and she is awesome as the villain. She has proven in the past that she can play dirty on the big screen in films such as The Huntsman and Monster. There is something rather menacing about her that gives her this “I really don’t give a shiz”. This is one of the most important aspects of a antagonist in a story. This plays out so well as she kind of does this dance around with Vin Deisel’s Dom.

Then we have the coming together of Statham and The Rock, being forced to work together in order to capture Dom. This leads to a constant collection of witty back and forth that help to create the humour on which the breaks in between the action are filled. Big action and hilarious comedy makes for a fun filled movie night.

Here’s the thing, it is big and it is flashy and to be honest I thoroughly enjoyed it. The scenes in Cuba are awesome and certainly make me want to go there. Sure, it is not perfect and at times the CGI is a bit on the poor side as the blend between real stunts and CGI. Plus, it is certainly cheesy as at times but then again that is one of the things that makes this film series so fun. If the previous film wasn’t enough of a tribute to the late Paul Walker, there are still plenty of little elements dropped in to make sure that you don’t forget about Brian.

The Verdict
If you are expecting a Fast and Furious movie then you will be happy as. If you are expecting an Academy Award winner, then you are an idiot. IT’s fast paced high-octane action and pretty damn good on the big screen.

The Extras

Vin Diesel, who plays the character Dominic Toretto, hinted in an interview while backstage at the 2015 MTV Movie Awards, that The Fate of the Furious would be set in New York City. He continued by saying "Furious 7 (2015) was for Paul and 'Furious 8' will be from Paul". This is because, before the tragic death of Paul Walker, he told Vin that 'Furious 8' was guaranteed to be made. The movie is set in New York City. It has also been suggested that the movie will honour Paul Walker's wish by going back to more street racing, instead of relying on special effects and huge action sequences.

At CinemaCon 2015, Vin Diesel announced The Fate of the Furious for an April 14, 2017 release date.

Eva Mendes is rumored to be returning as Agent Fuentes in this film.

The studio has revealed, that Kurt Russell will have a much larger role in this film.

Vin Diesel and Ludacris posted on their Instagram accounts, an image for "Fast and Furious 8" with the backdrop of New York City, hinting at the new setting for the franchise. This will be the first time a Fast and Furious film will take place there.

This will be the first Hollywood movie to be shot in Cuba.

A big action sequence was shot in Iceland in April 2016. It was supposedly the biggest explosion scene ever filmed in Iceland.
